From the mind of Jared Hess (Napoleon Dynamite, Nacho Libre) comes another tale of awkward teenage hilarity. There are two boys named Steve, but the P.E. teacher declares there can only be one. How will he decide who gets to keep the name Steve?

Both Steves killed themselves after watching this short.

It was better than a lot of the other films on this site.

Pointless

Someone on here mentioned about Hess having ' found an audience with his work', well I am that audience, and frankly I thought that film was a waste of my 2.17 minutes.
puigirl3/27/07
fabulous, absolutely fabulous

Definitely wasn't funny. There wasn't much to it at all. I didn't feel for any of the characters, so frankly, I didn't care who won. So we knew from the beginning "okay, its a race. one will win, and become steve" but I was hoping something interesting would happen during the race. But it didn't.Sorry Mr.Hess. Maybe next time.

...what???...but it made me laugh tho...thumbs up

Looked nice, sounded nice, but I was waiting for big payoff that never arrived. It lacks that necessary zing.

I knew B U S H was a bad word!
mudweiserr12/19/06
Very niche. I can accept that Hess has found an audience with his work, but it's not for me.
Liyaknowsit12/17/06
It was kind of pointless to me, nothing clever about it.

If you liked Napoleon Dynamite, you'll like WINNER TAKES STEVE. Hess knows his way around geekdom, and the midwest. I think it's brilliant.
Anonymous11/29/06

Anonymous11/23/06
I thought that it wasa terrific. Very genuine

Simple statement, perfectly cast, real.
Paolo11/4/06
great: simple, lateral, out of the box.
Anonymous11/4/06
What was that about?
AdamC11/2/06
Sorry. I don't get it.
phattygurl11/1/06
Good film, simple concept.
Raven Lenore10/30/06
its a great short, loved it

My God. Why does everyone on the Internet hate everything. And seems to have the attitude that they could do better. I liked this film. And I like the way Jared Hess shoots things. So there.
Ultrapower500010/29/06
Who cares about Steve? This film doesn't get anything, and neither does the producer of the film.
Anonymous10/28/06
oh, well sdomeone had to be steve. Gald it wasn't me.
José Alejandro10/27/06
ehm... ok, im still waiting
critical eye10/27/06
Hu? That was it?! Really?!
sierradawon0710/27/06
Can you say....STUPID? I can.
Anonymous10/27/06
Was that supposed to be funny? I wonder how long it took to come up with this idea(hopefully less time than it took to film it).
Anonymous10/26/06
Pretty dumb
Anonymous10/26/06
I liked it. lol, "Yes! IM Steve!"
Roger10/26/06
what a waste of time
Giggan10/26/06
Short, simple, clear. Could have been more involved though.
Wayne10/26/06
stupid and pointless
Terry10/25/06
Simple, clear & funny
Anonymous10/25/06
cute
Anonymous10/25/06
What happened? Napolean Dynamite was so great. This is lame. I havent seen Nacho Libre, it doesn't appeal to me, maybe it's more "Steve".
Anonymous10/25/06
it was.... interesting.... the red haired guy looked a lot like Rupert Grint (Ron, from Harry Potter) until the last scene, but then again, you couldnt really see his face...
Anonymous10/25/06
Stupid. Senseless. And, yes, that guy looks like Harry Potter's Ron.
Anonymous10/25/06
Are you kidding me? What an amateur piece of work. Badly paced, poorly written, no design... need I go on? And this guy calls himself a director and Hollywood agrees!
Anonymous10/25/06
Rather simple. Felt like there was a jump cut in the editing during the race too. Mildly funny - gym teacher that drives a golf cart?
Anonymous10/25/06
I programmed this for the 2006 Cucalorus Film Festival. Good Stuff!
threekoins10/25/06
Just like the movie, Napoleon Something, Stupid.
Sean10/25/06
Like it. The universal truth here is how we allow other people to create labels for us. We celebrate when it matches our own self-view.
Anonymous10/24/06
The kid in the red hair looks like the actor who plays Ron in Harry Potter...
