A truly chilling example of foreshadowing, The Voice of the Prophet is an interview with Rick Rescorla, the head of security for the investment firm Morgan Stanley Dean Witter. A retired Army colonel, veteran of combat in three wars and a survivor of the 1993 bombing of the twin towers (in which he saved the lives of hundreds of Morgan Stanley employees), Rescorla was killed in the WTC attacks of September 11, 2001. In this interview, Rescorla all but predicts the events that lead up to the September 11 attack and the war on terrorism that followed.

I am a 10 year member of the American Legion and past Chaplain. On Memorial Day 2002, I was asked to give the address. That morning I watched at the Viet Nam Memorial in DC as members of the 1st Cavalry Division and especially LT. General Hal Moore. It was then I learned of Ric and his bravery. Ric deserves the Medal of Freedom. I work for TSA in Oregon and wear a "Garryowen" tie tack pin to honor him daily. God bless the legacy and live of "Ric" Rescorla!
hackberryflat2/4/08
2nd time - my comments caused "lost"! Colonel is intelligent
nrobi11/27/07
The idea that one person could forsee the WTC disaster, is quite scary and also one of the things that prove we can make sure the terrorists cannot attack us again. But, we need to improve the diplomatic relations with all the people who choose to be anti-american. Make sure, that in the next election, we as the electorate choose the person who can make a difference in the world.
skybear21010/19/07
When I think of Rick Rescorla the vision of another great hero, a hero from the Scottish Wars for National Independence comes to mind, Sir Archibald Douglas, known as 'the Grim'; a great warrior, fearless in combat and just as unrelenting in his zeal to restore churches and monasteries; a complex but straightforward hero for all times...living in the shadow of his truth; that the character of a man is determined by his willingness to risk everything in the face of danger to overcome the odds.
palefrankie9/9/07
I just watched a TV doc about this Rick Rescorla on channel 4. Everybody loves to look for heroes these days, but this man really was a hero. He had a vision about the state of our world, due to the action of our greedy governments, corporations. I think if he saw what state we are in today, he would be telling us the terror attacks on us have not even began yet. ***** and Blair has made the world a very dangerous place to live in. God bless Rick couragous Rescorla.

the truth is out there, just follow the money...... war ... is all about money, look at who gets rich.... all wars,,,, ww1 ww2 and soon to be ww3 is all about bankers, and bussinesses making fortunes off of us.... wake up people!Sad but its the facts!!!!

Politicians and their shills do not want to talk about Rescorla. Oh, they will rail on and on about the brave cops and firemen. But they will say nothing about the man who got his folks out and lost his life doing so. BTW, the cops and fireman told Rescorla to keep his folks in the building. i gotta puke
Sapaya4/14/07
Smart! Sailingman
mosamman4/9/07
There's many others who share Rick Rescorla's views out there, except they've been silenced by Bill O'Reily and his ilk

It's a shame that such a great man had to die in the 9/11 attack. We lost a lot of leaders that day.
s210/16/06
An actual hero, a word tossed around alot these day's. A man who fought and survived a wrong fight and learned from history. Not to take anything away from any of our veterans, I was to young for Vietnam, but I would have gone if asked. I'm older and a bit wiser now and realise the folly, it's a shame our "leaders" are so blind, oh I forgot there's oil and power ie. greed running the show. God Bless The U.S.A.
NIHN9/13/06
Our corporate greed has led us to try to take control of other nations. We should be more concerned with rising gas prices, child obesity, rise of health care; but instead our government makes sure we can make the rich even more rich. The sad part is that innocent poeple pay the price, and not those responsible!
Ultrapower50009/12/06
Very moving, isn' it??? This man spoke more sense in 8 minutes than our current administration has done in over 5 years.
Anonymous9/11/06
this man knows what he's talking about, unlike most of the liberals I know who oppose the war. we feel its wrong, but he knows why.
Jared9/10/06
Wow, what an amazing guy. Very moving interview. Thanks for sharing.
G9/10/06
if there is one thing we have learnt from history, it's that we have not learnt from history. United States of Amnesia, your "cavalier ways" have come home to roost, ENJOY FOLKS.
william poirier md9/8/06
SENT THIS ONE TO ALL THE NEOCONS---TELL THEM EITHER JOIN THE ARMY OR LEAVE OFFICE
AC9/7/06
'Cavalier Action', 'Residual Hatred', is anybody in US Administration even calculating how much residual hatred they have piled up around the world all these years? There's such a huge disconnect between US citizens and their govt that govt gets away with murder and its democracy is reduced to plutocracy. Was they US ever a moral nation? Who is responsible for that?
JB9/6/06
He was dead right. We should not police culture/religion/or the world. One question - if we are saving freedom and preventing tyranny - why are we not in Central Africa to stop the killing and starvation? Is it $$$$$$ for the few? We cannot even help ourselves, Example-New Orleans
VirgC9/6/06
WOW. The Colonel's last statement sums it all up perfectly. Should be required viewing for ALL politicians!
Nick9/6/06
It was true then and is now. Should be broadcast on the hour, every hour, ad infinitum.
Me9/6/06
So true, so sad. The USA cannot continue to expend lives and resources on being the world police world when it can't resolve the problems in our own backyard.
Starbug9/6/06
Should be made compulsive viewing in the White house and at No'10....
David Clayton8/14/06
This is a wonderful recording. Prophetic and true.
MzMeow6/28/06
For those of us who don't believe in the propagandism of fairy-tales in America. This man has a lot to say!!!!
Andy6/6/06
I wonder if our Prime Minister John Howard (Australia) has seen this....I doubt it. For those impressed by Rick Rescorla, a truly remarkable man, I strongly recommend 2 books: "We Were Soldiers Once....and Young", and Rick Rescorla's biography "Heart Of a Soldier". A rare human being.......
CARSON13/22/06
I just finished this man's bio on audio book 'Heart of a Soldier' he lived and died an amazing life, he is a national treasure. But Rick Rescola was no profit, his words and prediction were born from common sence, seasoning, and team effort of his friend Dan Hill. To bad our formal government does not utilize those traits or the great Americans that posess them.....
Mayr1/30/06
First, this man was a hero! He lost his life saving others. Out of all of the Morgan Stanley employees there that day, he was one of 6 who did not make it out. We would do well to listen to his words and those of others like him.
Anonymous1/18/06
woah....this is why we shoudlnt ignore people's views and oppinions on our country and world....especially now, yet we still do it. Then it's too ate and we're shocked and hear "i told you so"
Winterhawk300612/8/05
Excellent! A true warrior with a stunning grasp of reality and the future. Kazoo 1991 should read "We Were Soldiers Once, and Young" then drop to his bored baby knees and thank whatever god he beleives in that men like Rick Rescorla lived!
HkTrooper11/30/05
A brave man, excellent interview.
kazoo199111/22/05
Kind of boring, though I guess a good doc. There are many better ones on this site to watch.
testrun66610/18/05
Wow! What an impressive interview!
eternalbuddah9/24/05
This is the type of person we want running the US. Not the right, not the left, just the truth. God can bless other nations too not just America
tallgirl19609/17/05
This film still leaves an impression on me. To bad he didn't make it out.
Anonymous9/14/05
Excellent! How could he know this but not the government? RIP Mr. Rescorla thanks for telling the truth.
Natalie9/12/05
Wow! Powerful!
ForeverDED9/6/05
It's a shame this never saw general release before 9/11. It's also a shame that a man who had foreseen the dark present we live in perished by the very same forces he predicted would rise up. Words of wisdom always seem to drown in the cacophony of political rhetoric. =(
Allan7/21/05
Truth is never easy, but we must face it. We do not have any right to impose ourselves on anyone who does not seek our help.
Larry Allar7/20/05
I concure, his comments are parallel to my thoughts and stand on where this country is going! We need true change and it will not come I feel unfortunatley until more destruction happens:(
dk7/20/05
A disturbingly accurate level of foresight expressed in the film particularly as it highlights the fact that post 9/11 it's even more obvious that America is no longer run a country but a corporation. And with every corporation comes the cost to the everyman.
SGT C.7/19/05
Haunting and a very important film.
Anonymous7/19/05
He said it right, terrorist did strike the homeland. The Gulf War was not a bad example of war. In fact we accomplished what we set forth to do. We may have been in the "open," but so were the enemy. We wouldn't have to play,"top cop" if everyone would quite calling us to "help them." That was the true reason for Vietnam, not communism, but because the French wanted to keep their territories, so they dragged us into it.
Bill7/19/05
Every American should see and carefully listen to "The Voice of the Prophet" and our President should be the first.
M Noall7/5/05
This is a true cornishman - what a guy.... when they make the film about him I bet they drop the 'men of cornwall do your duty...' song and just go with some american patriot thing.... oh well

WOW! One of the BEST Videos at Atom Films out of the hundreds I've seen. This should be shown to everyone in the United States. WOW!
Ali12/18/04
Great MAN.....fell to his doom according to his own predictions...WHERE WAS THIS VIDEO BEFORE 9/11 ????????
hosskat11/27/04
Compelling! We lost a REAL American when this hero went down! Did you notice that EVERY "thumbs down" (negative review) about this interview mentioned it being "boring" or "too long". With the attention span of the average American, it's no wonder GWB and his henchmen won the election.
GentleSocrates10/29/04
One of the most honest and moving pieces I've seen on atomfilms yet. fantastic and tragic
cmac ( UK)10/23/04
What a man. he certainly knew what he was talking about. Briliant

The truth about our invasion in Iraq and our gross continuing mistakes. Put the people responsible on the lines!.

beautiful, insightful, basic, simple, to the point, s aound prediction.

Awesome what this man has to say. Before 9/11 is this guy right on or what
Ogopogo10/12/04
Listen up. This man has some words for you.
dave9/27/04
Hopefully this shows that you do not have to be a feint-heart, pacifist or socialist to have negative views on greed-led politics. A wonderful thing to have on film.
Jill9/24/04
wow
barrie, england9/17/04
A very moving interview. A miltary man with foresight and an open mind. Unique.
John Hanscom9/11/04
Highly Recommend.
Hitokiri_ona9/11/04
Pretty good. But if our country Wasnt here the world would be in a lot more hurt than it is now. So there we things I didn't agree with.
Devflex8/28/04
The audio was a bit weak but some good points were made; if you can't clean up your backyard, now to you expect to clean up the whole neighborhood?
o_medina798/9/04
The man lived by his word and died by his word which makes him a prophecy.
Kevin Cruz8/3/04
couple this with frontlines report - the man who knew too much wich is available on there website its to bad no one listens when people like this speak.
joe meteor8/2/04
Not bad, but extremely simplistic. I understand that it is difficult to explain your entire position in 7 minutes, but try listening to someone that has been in MORE wars than COL. Rick at a HIGHER level. AFTER Col. Rick has been a General and sent good men to die for America I'll listen to his theories.
Toni L. 8/2/04
Heartbreaking.
Skyhawk7/28/04
Listen closely. This man has been there, done that. If he was running for President, he would have my vote. Truely worth the time to watch.
Karl7/2/04
Whatever your ploitics might be, do watch this. This man's testemony deserves to be heard. Don't skip this.
Tesla6/12/04
In one word "WOW" this is a must see interview........
Craig Kelly6/10/04
I met this amazing man while serving in the military. I am astonished at the negative reviews...boring? I guess the shallow ones among us may think so...such lack of thinking puts those Rescorla warns us about in power.
Doug5/28/04
This is something I keep coming back to. This man knew empirically what Noam Chomsky writes. His insights are both brave and astounding. Unfortunately, no one was listening where it mattered most. Unending war? What kind of foreign policy is that?
Anonymous5/7/04
Boring? Naive? and anti-american? Only an american could view something which dares to be slight critical of anything to do with American and then say oh no not a true patriot and very anti-american. Just grow up guys and realise that living in a true democracy you have the right and ability to be as critical as you like about the political or social state of the nation you live in. That is true freedom of speach.
Hal90005/2/04
I am sure this is very important to this man and his experiences important but it's boring and naive and anti-American in my opinion. BORING!
pep5/1/04
Only the good die young.
Betty4/30/04
One word...boring. I'm at the point in my life when I need and require funny. I need that funny to live off of that I usually get. Sorry, sure it was great otherwise though.
Ryan4/27/04
Simply truth
AuntyQK4/26/04
If only he had lived to be a future President... imagine! I wanted to reach through the screen and touch his face and thank him for all he gave! God be with his family.

Scary, but so true
Hip Diego, Memphis4/23/04
Cause & Effect. Wisdom imparted, wisdom reinforced.
craig4/23/04
Riveting! Rick carries the substance of a warrior who understands how life works. There is noone to blame, one of the themes portrayed. Simply a clear recognition, by this man, of the consequences human beings suffer due to the seeds thoughtlessly sewn. An excellent portrayal of the realities of life and death.
Anonymous4/22/04
A look at the future that we will live if we don't learn from the pass we are bound to repeat it. To understand look at the Roman history. Those that fail to learn history are doomed to repeat it; Those who fail to learn history correctly--why they are simply doomed
jeremy4/22/04
I'm sure it's good, but the audio is messed up. It sounded like a bunch of muffled sneezes, and I know my computer is O.K., I tested it.
riffraft4/21/04
haunting words left me speachless it got me think about what he just said
Anonymous4/21/04
Everyone should watch this. This is real. The words, the message is delivered by a REAL AMERICAN HERO. This is not a story. This is the truth being told lioke it is, straight up and without undue bias. Wake up America! Take your blinders off. We can no longer tolerate our goverments actions and continue to fool ourselves as being imuned to repercussion. SHARE THIS WITH YOUR FRIENDS TODAY!
PurdueFan4/16/04
How incredibly sad that this man, with such keen insight and courage, died as he predicted others would.
Mrdrudge4/15/04
Chilling! Some very interesting comments and statements. What was interesting is that he suffered the fate of his own predictions.
Anonymous4/14/04
I REALLY DON'T HAVE ONE AT THIS TIME
J4/5/04
It was a fine piece, but hardly warranted the title Voice of the Prophet. Lots of thinking people predicted repercussions of our 'cavalier actions' for years before Sept. 11
neil4/5/04
If only more people in government thought like this guy!
Anonymous4/4/04
Half-way to the end of this interview I got chills and started to choke up.This is a moving piece.

wow!this man speaks nothing but the truth.
Linda4/3/04
Mr. Rescorla's message is very important. Every politician and American citizen should watch "Voice of the Prophet".
Anonymous4/2/04
Great! Wish I could hear more from this man!
Anonymous4/1/04

Alisha3/30/04
What a shame that the masses don't listen to this man because even after all that has happened I feel as though he is still telling us what is to come, and I know that most of us aren't listnening.
brackat3/30/04
Thank you.
d_j93/20/04
great insights from a great man...
Evan Nix3/19/04
Wow. Not what I expected at all. Wow.
Michel Foucault3/13/04
A wise man, with a sober and unfortunately accurate vision of the future. His words are chilling condemnation of the chicken hawks who have led us to a pyrrhic victory in Iraq.
vulturmint2/24/04
The warning signs were there. (but were to deaf dumb and blind to see it)
starlight432/23/04
WOW!! I am speechless. Why didn't this guy speak up sooner??? Good call, Mr. Edwards.... Keep up the ' Prophet watch' I'm listening.
Anonymous2/1/04
Profound. If our nations leaders had the insights of this man, the world would be a different place.
Coco1/10/04
Very touching. Great interview and very ironic. Rescorla's words should be heard by our leaders. Did anyone send this to George Dubya?
Anonymous11/14/03
This man was a ledgend in his own time. He deserves any medal the United States can give him. He truly was a hero........i give him a thumbs up
Pugsley10/31/03
The guy is a hero !! If this video hasnt impressed you then read ' We were soldiers once...and young ' by Lt Gen Hal Moore, and read about Col Rescorla's actions in Vietnam. May he rest in peace.
Anonymous10/6/03
If this wasn't shown on national tv, then it should have been. Not knocking the USA but the face of war has changed and we are a generation still to smell the burnt flesh this man has many times. may they rest in peace. We will be the unfortunates to fight the next war, in the forces or not.....
Anonymous10/5/03
not bad
Anonymous10/5/03
This man participated in wars which had no cause or benefit to america other than selling arms and profiting from war, he points out that the people behind these wars do not even smell them, hes right, now america has justified all declarations of war to any country by labelling them terorists
S Seitz10/2/03
From everything I've read about this man he should have received this nation's highest award- The Congressional Medal of Honor! I wish he could have a chance to write more as I am a history buff, particularly concerning warfare.
Brandy9/30/03
Profound and interesting, such good ideas.
Diane9/29/03
This was superb... Perhaps if someone would have seen and heeded these pearls we could realize that only warriors know the true nature of battle.
Dan T.9/24/03
I knew his story and he is a real hero. When he gave this interview, he was of course talking about President Clinton. I wonder if he would have felt differently after 9/11 about the U.S. role in the world.
C.L. Carden9/23/03
Poignant and engaging, despite its unpolished style. Rick Rescorla should have run for President; instead he became a victim of his own premonition.
Anonymous9/18/03
