Director Ben Mars illustrates a classic children's folk tale about a disrespected guard dog that finally gets his due. The rough-edged, black and white aesthetic was inspired by German expressionist woodcuts.

our grandfather used to tell this tale - the hobyhaws - to us as children...our aunt found this and mailed it to us...it is a nice stroll down memory lane...thank you Mr. Mars

Not Bad, The darkness was a good way to cover the graft-like animation. The story was an old tale and was a good starting point when learning animation.

I'm absolutely surprised that this ancient tale, "The Hobyans" showed up here, even as butchered as this tale of butchery is, it got a good humoring up in the process. . . (I here I thought it was a Swedish tale. Humm.) And to think this is one of the children's bed time stories they use to tell! . . . Poor kids! Now you know why so many folk are psychopathic nowadays. HA!

No matter how much the owner mistreated the dog, he stayed loyal. Good that the guy was thrown out at the end:):):)

It's really unique. I had to watch it 4 times to see what was chopped off though. I think it's a good film, well done and very strange.
Ultrapower50009/21/06
High powered animation beyond any fairy tale I've seen.

Good Doggie, Turple! Woof, woof! Loved the animation style; the woodblock look is perfect for the no-dialogue, dark-and-deep-woods tale. And the happy ending was succinct, too.

A wonderful film, full of the dark spirit of fairy tale - scary, amusing and touching by turns. Brilliant. And fabulous animation, too.

i felt a certain parallel between the characters' relationship with my own girlfriend. Shot very well, almost Woody Allenesque.

THE DIALOG IS VERY REALISTIC, THE RELATIONSHIP COULD GO IN ANY DIRECTION FROM HERE.
