What in the hell is this? Apparently, it's some sort of hybrid music video/documentary/comedy/Chinese propaganda thing featuring electro beats and an arrogant text narrator who taunts our weak American work ethic. Equal parts mesmerizing, hysterical and humiliating, this video is a sure sign that our American empire is on the ropes.
cayce10264/28/08
I'ts the end of the world as we know it and i feel fine! China 5000 years to U.S.A.'s229 years.WAKE THROW OUT RATS IN WASHINGTON AND PUT THEM IN CHINESES JAILS.
madratz4/18/08
Brilliant.... and to quote the poster....."mesmerizing, hysterical and humiliating"Some of you patriotic US commenters need to have a look at yourselves.... you're not living the dream... you're living in a dream.
CleverMonkey3/19/08
CaptainClouds gets it. Watch carefully... it is not an endorsement of China, it is a criticism of the US. Is it wrong to call Americans stupid for allowing this? Are they not, after all, living the American ideal? Get what you can. Jheylin, wait 10 years and see if the US isn't also a mismanaged, overpopulated disease pile. How is your healthcare and education? And Chuckb35, you are right but you miss the point that in this film they are agreeing with you. This film is brilliant.
jheylin3/18/08
Ummm, if I had to choose between America and China, that's a no-brainer. The cities are crowded, polluted, mis-managed disease piles. The country-side is full of starving peasants. I choose burger king.
captaincloud3/16/08
Dont you people get it? This prolific film is about the fact that we are going down. Our law makers should do something about it but hey, we voted for them. Twice.Wake up America. We wont be # 1 for long.Ship our good jobs over sea. Thats how we pay such low prices at walmart. This film is in your face and you dont seem to get it from the other comments I have read.
chuckb352/14/08
China has a resource that we want. They have agreed to sell it to us at a bargain price. The flow of money to China and goods back to the U.S. has a deflationary affect on the U.S. economy. We now have less money chasing more goods. If they return some money to the U.S. by purchasing goods or even loaning it to us, it allows us to use more of their bargain labor.Worry over China is a distraction from our real problems which are domestic.Lack of education, crime and drugs, health care...
Program1/29/08
Stupid China, In America we have a thing called "Pollution Control", and "Fair Trial" and we do not have millions of people working for 1 cent a day, where in America the minimum that we can make is $5.50. I fell bad for the people living there.
Mellianne1/28/08
It's quite interesting how this video keeps bragging about how many jobs they have, but they don't even get the chance to enjoy life at a theme park. Why would anyone brag about spending time all day in a sweat shop laboring over tedious work that nobody wants to do, with no time to do anything but work at that crappy job all day?
i am so smart s-m-r-t1/28/08
I enjoyed it. It's all very clearly true.He neglects to mention the fact that every city has a china town and they move to North America all the time and own a lot of the powerful business here too.madnessman- I don't think you should be talking about the authors bad use of grammar when clearly you have no grasp of it yourself.
Uberalek1/6/08
Oh, and by the way, I'd like to see you translate a film into Chinese. The Chinese would probably laugh at YOU for having bad "gramer"!!!
Uberalek1/6/08
Oh my god!!!! Hahaha you pretty much sum up why people don't like America. You're being hypocritical, using bad grammar in a comment attacking the maker of this film for using bad grammar!! You're also being quite disrespectful to the Chinese people. Shame on you.
madnessman9012/11/07
too long.bad gramer.(makes sense, there chines after all).boring.anoying music.stupid.and confusing.althoug the points are true.all but one.they said "china no make gosip" and this is gosip, about USA.F**king chines
dohlink11/24/07
Stunning, could not stop watching it, opened my eyes even more. Excellent!! Thanks.
theobabe11/5/07
wow, it shows how, in the not to distant future china will rule the world. and the west give it to them on a plate
CHUNKIE10/31/07
For the first time in my life, I actually think too much damage has been done by the ***** Machine. There is far too much loss of blood and treasure, too much money has been spent, too many quagmires have been created by fat cats like Cheney who will just fly off to Dubai and retire with our money. Passport to China anyone? Might as well go live where my money is at work and my job went to.
joshlj10/25/07
But we should learn from china "meaning" learn from you enemy or compeditor and use his tools of survival to power your own empire and let him know not to underestimate "you". This can only hellp determind people tho, if america cannot do this as a "team" I cannot stay here and waste. It was most sad everything on this video was true abought debts and there factorys. They were smart even thow it took them a gereration or two to get back at us. Who made this video I ask
kemaxiu9/9/07
The one-dimensional and antagonistic nature of China's "Second Great Leap Forward" needs to be recognized in the developed world so that it can be balanced with a more complete picture of what modernity offers. This movie effectively illustrates to the uninitiated current nationalistic sentiments in China.
fr_wayne_mcnamara*****yahoo*****8/24/07
If money were all that mattered......
billhunter8/15/07
Thoughtful movie. I thought it was a mistake when the Clinton administration was working so hard on "Fair Trade" agreements worldwide. The Republicans should have put a stop to giving away American jobs to the Chinese when they took over power in Washinton. Unfortunately, neither the Democrats or the Republicans seem to notice, or even care, about what is going on in the world. Keep American jobs in the USA.
Putnik19148/11/07
Though it's a difficult film to watch (because it is so close to the bone), it is correct in what it states. One wonders why our 'leaders' can't seem to see the reality.
katmed8/6/07
HELLO AMERICA!!! this is not a funny film a devastatingly true fim wake up ! Well done and a little scary I might add!
marlinmiller7/28/07
Just goes to show the direction we're heading....WAKE UP AMERICA!!!
dontneed7/16/07
!!!what a video!!!, finally somebody speaks and spits out the true about the future of and the past of america. because to have all those "made in china" 99cent stores ranning, all these years, you need sobody slave somewhere in the world. face it america your days are couted as super power. move like this can help americans stopp being so busy with thenselves and look after the world that actually help them became what they are now. for better or worse.
animator777/5/07
Is it too late to learn Mandarin at age 60?
dawnjames576/5/07
absolutely brilliant! anyone giving a thumbs down must be dumb american hillbilly too busy plotting drive to nearest wendy's to notice what is happening in the world. that's the point of this film. oh and by the way, it is NOT supposed to be FUNNY!! there is nothing funny about what more than just a 'couple of politicians' have done to the economy and the american middle class. if this film doesn't open your eyes then i am afraid nothing will.
paul7555/26/07
too loooooooooooooong!
Elhany5/14/07
interesting, clever, makes you think
ecrth4/28/07
It's kinda sad that an entire country is judged upon the actions of a rediculous admin. Any American who things this is funny has some issues.
rumbler6294/27/07
Republican Hillybilly elected to office, and gives all the jobs away--good film parody of how it really is!!
MartiJune4/24/07
This needs to be seen by all of our self righteous citizens who have their heads stuck in the sand (SouthPark) needs to parity this oneWAKE UP PEOPLE
timbershell3/24/07
this one ROCKS!!! the only americans who won't like it are the ones who voted for *****...if you look closely, you'll see the truth is really there...wake up america!
bradnutcher3/17/07
By the way, Atom Films' web site is BLOCKED by the China national firewall. In China, be careful NOT to use Yahoo e-mail to correspond with anyone about democracy. Otherwise, Yahoo will turn you over to the authorities, they will storm your home and drag you away, and you will get a 10 year prison sentence. (Alternatively, one of their many fleet of mobile execution buses will show up to dispatch you, after which your organs will be sold). Nice country, China.
~biG^HooPz~3/15/07
this film judges ALL of america by looking at a couple politicians and not even getting the facts straight. this was nothing but a bunch of useless, stereotypical garbage made up of nothing but opinions. plus, it was TOO long. thumbs WAY WAY WAY (never been more) DOWN!!!
AmericanHacker3/14/07
good ending though could have got to the point faster kindo lost me in the middle but very good
DamienXYZ3/11/07
We Americans need to wake up, become responsible WORLD citizens, demonstrate values that place the wellbeing of humanity and the planet as a whole (including non-human life) above our venerating of our petty materialistic wants. Especially with the bad example which America has been setting in terms of being materialistic bullies on an international scale, and with the economic truths as evinced in this video, the planet is heading for a very bad place.
jgpineau3/10/07
Too long and no news.
zerocool20073/5/07
This is bul*****. Its generalizing the actions of a few politicians into the belief and actions of all Americans. Thats not how it works.
bradnutcher2/20/07
In the country of China there are many things that areparodied to make fun of the English language. This hasbeen going on for years. IBM had to figure out the translation for the computer age because their languageis not computer compatible. Could you imagine a computer infiltration of their country and the damage the US could do to this "Floppy Tiger." (Ha Ha) - Brad
lostnovel2/5/07
Criticism is always a large pill to swallow. Unusual presentation, yet effective. As long as a reaction has been elicited, then the director has acheived his/her goal.
northerncomfort2/4/07
I like this film, it is truer than you think. Sad thing is canada is following your footsteps, and using China's cheap labour force, and we are our manufacturing also to china. Oh wait we never did own our Industries they are all US owned. The ones that were canadian owned are now sold to the United states.
proudpapa007*****gmail*****1/31/07
Ok Whatever that really *****ed, music was hypnotizing somewhat though.

Excellent. The sorry future
Citizencain1/22/07
Slave to a communist regime. ***** that little communist ****.
Citizencain1/22/07

I don't know what's more pathetic, the pedantic film or the insipid "HURR HURRR Amerikkaa *****" lock-step recommendations. Grow some brains, kids.
FrenchyD3001/12/07
or trully for that matter
FrenchyD3001/12/07
Hey Montansky look up immigrate in the dictionary and see if you can figure out why they think we're stupid
Montansky8412/24/06
Ha Ha Ha.... This is trully GREAT! We should all immigrate to China!
bobg372312/20/06
There are many lessons to be gleaned here, and the underlying theme is competitiveness with a capital "C". In regards to trade policy, the U.S. needs to take a closer look at the side effects of a global economy, in particular as to how it affects Americans for better or worse. Japan was a good student of U.S. Capitalism. Too good, in fact. Deja-Vu all over again. Plenty of insightful, biting sarcasm in a psuedo documentary by a Sino-ranconteur "Ha Ha Ha" jive-***** mofo no less. Me rikey.
BlackPope12/20/06
Chinese witty, very laugh at catastro***** US politico-economic *****-droop.America u need snowballs of smack prozac, thats next big import, don't worry, China make deal with Afghanistan supply heroin, CIA transport ***** thru military camps for usual 10ò0cut, happy to keep you dumb ignorant slaves in capitalist dictatorship - so enjoy SmakZak, only â¬50 /shot (soon we dont take you funny munney Dollar)
pameladay*****gmail*****12/19/06
Cuts to the chase in an visually riviting fashion. GOOD stuff, more please sir.
noteevee12/17/06
indeed, china could squash us like a fortune cookie if they so desired. don't know why that's so effin' funny to me. i loved this film.
EngrishTeacher12/4/06
I think the response from Jacob on 11/15/06 sums up the current state of the average American worker. His sentence structure, spelling, grammar and form are right on the mark with why I don't own a Chevrolet. Thank you Jacob for proving the whole point of the movie so succinctly.
Jacob11/15/06
this is very sad if not even roamotly true. china can even keep the one country they have complete control ovre north korea in line. never the less become a world power lean. pluse they are to heavily depinednt on the us for trade. so thier is no way the could become the next superpower of the world
Janet S.9/6/06
This is a terrible little movie, the whole thing was very annoying, the quality was poor, & the music was worse........ & too,too long...............Stinker!!!!!!
Anonymous9/5/06
Absolutely brilliant and sad! Big foam thumb up!
Vinny8/1/06
Devastatingly accurate. Welcome to your future. I'm happy it is China taking over and not someone else. As a film, a little heavy on the Shanghai imagery (sure, Pudong is irresistible) and the Chinglish connects about 3 times out of 5. Some plodding parts and denouement a letdown but essential viewing and compelling story.
Anonymous7/21/06
I saw this first at the Sundance website. It's a brilliant harangue of a letter to the US, with love, from China. Biting, scary, humorous, poignant. Best thing on the atomfilms website.
Anonymous7/13/06
scary isnt it? think they may have hit the nail on the head with this one? can you decide for yourself?
D. Often7/5/06
This is one of the most important pieces of film I've seen in a LONG time. An amusing dialogue on the trade deficit between America and China - why it's here and why it's here to STAY. I give this two thumbs up. If you disagree, you can chase MY fragrant monkey tail!
GatoCat7/2/06
Well, that certainly was... um... long...
natalie7/1/06
that was wierd...
ura6/30/06
I want to know, simplly
Anonymous6/29/06
slow, only few funny, but true sections.
Anonymous6/22/06
I'm ashamed to say it's so true. . . I'd leave the USA in a second if I had more money. I didn't elect the hillbilly.
TG6/19/06
Great fun, very well-done, kept my interest. Could've been recited in broken English as well, may have made it better.
Luke6/18/06
Obviously written by an American and a fan of Beavis and Butthead no doubt. Full of depreciating asian comments (but supposedly done to make fun of Americans). Waste of time, and money but feel free to waste more time making more- so I can get YOUR job :D
wizzard9116/11/06
wow this will make you think
Anonymous6/8/06
Hopefully, this will open the eyes of others who didn't already see this one coming.
Anonymous6/8/06
..nuff said...
Anonymous6/7/06
More propoganda? How original!
Anonymous6/6/06
All too true. Sad but true.
Anonymous6/3/06
very entertaining
David C.B.6/3/06
All too true.Seems like you can't buy ANYTHING in the U.S. that does not have the words "Made in China" on it? A MUST-SEE for every Congressperson!
Anonymous6/3/06
awesome vid...i can see how it can offend but if u think about what the vid shows....and learn... we can make the USA stronger.
JC5/31/06
This should be a wake up call for America. We are well on our way to a glorious #2! We have to get back on track again!!! Refocus
Thomas5/30/06
This video was very confusing and somewhat offenseive. I really don't think it's that great.
bill5/28/06
Very good and thought provoking. The facts given are all too true. I would have liked the subtitles to have stayed on screen a little longer.
Phidippus5/27/06
Some compelling factoids are presented, however, the text narration is a bit overbearing at times.
curiousgemini5/26/06
I think it was a bit more anit-China than Anti-American. A pretty good wake up call. Apparently terrorism isn't the only thing we in the US should fear.
Zukowski5/26/06
i feel shame. I am only a rounding error.
Khalilullah5/26/06
While the points made are true, we are being sold out by our own government, I feel the style and way this is made is not funny at all, in fact, these chinese people who are so fantasticly superior to us should think about improving their grammar!
Anonymous5/26/06
I didn't care for it, not funny.
Anonymous5/24/06
As i am also of mixrd origin and since that far of being patriotic of any country. I wanna understand this little as critique on both countries. what we see is where hahahaamerica is now and what china has learned from america. both countries won´t get us very far in developing an overall perspective of men, women and nature since life isn´t all about economy.
Anonymous5/24/06
Pretty funny nice beats! on the socio political commentary it's kinda like Imperial Britain and Imperial Germany rivalry 100 years ago ... but "Gott Mit Uns" as Kaiser Wilhelm used to say ; )
paul5/24/06
Hats off to the editor and sound designer. The creative copywriting deserves a mention too.
Anonymous5/24/06
Entertaining video. The irony is that the Chinese appear to have picked up the Puritan ethic. Ha Ha, China. Work yourself to death.
G.I. Joe5/23/06
I guess you really pulled a fast one on America. You managed to consume $34.7 billion worth of our resources, and only gave up $210.5 billion of your own resources in the process. Pretty damn sneaky. Wanna do it again?
zhicheng wang5/23/06
i hope that world must be pease and love
JonnyBimmer5/23/06
It's true, as saddening as it is, and I'm not saying that because I'm half-Chinese. The war isn't just killing us literally. China is bound to pass the US, just like Toyota is bound to pass GM. Us Americans have just taken too much for granted and figured things will happen by osmosis or that things will never change. I really oughta learn more Chinese...
Anonymous5/22/06
Shocking...truly shocking. It really sends a message to all Americans. It woke me up. Praise to the people who took the time to do this.
RAVEDAVE5/22/06
The film is an alarming piece and so truthful it hurts. Face it, we are a country run by fat cats who don't care if it's run in the ground as long as they have their golden parachute. I challenge the factoid that there are more people employed by American companies in China than there are in the US. That's just too painful to be true. Say it aint so. Hats off to this brilliant, truthfully cruel short.
Andie5/22/06
Not tough to figure out, most Americans are fat and lazy...claim no responsibility for anything....and how do we buy american? Everytime I'm shopping....i can't find "Made in America". We need to do something but where to begin....
Morgan5/21/06
Brilliant (though excruciating) commentary on what our country is coming to. Though I suppose the counterpoint would be that the average American worker is still exponentially better off than the average worker in the PRC. I could go on, but it's really a war of ideology.
sat5/21/06
Genius! But poor Engrish too hard understanding.
Anonymous5/20/06
Hmmm... I think a lot of you don't get it. I think it's a really sarcastic way of criticizing China -- how it had abandoned its communist idealogy and embraced American style capitalism, ignoring everything else for the almighty dollar. Look at the pictures and read between the lines.
Jacqueline5/20/06
The general perceptions and reactions to this short are pretty interesting. That says something in and of itself.
Anonymous5/20/06
very very bad bad English. And very very narrow-mined Chinese
dfowensby5/20/06
boy is this boring.
vanwin5/20/06
Rather disjointed in my view, with extremely bad English. As for the socio-political aspect of it I'm not too worried, their overly polluted environment is going to crash long before we run out of money!
Anonymous5/19/06
This is way too long to actually sit through. The broken english is taking more effort to read than I've put into the entire day so far.
infromthewest5/19/06
not very funny and the music is anoying
Anonymous5/18/06
Real Eye-Opener! Better watch our backs! Get real: USA! From an 11th generation US citizen. That film worries me in many different areas. Buy American, and WE ALL WORK.
pootrsnootr5/18/06
CONTAIN YOUR EJACULATE! Pretty amusing, a little long.
Ultrapower50005/18/06
I heard the facts already. Enough said.
Francisco Tsai5/17/06
sadly to see the surname of the author is east-Asian style, this guy is not happy with "this" situation... Well, I may not, either. :)
Anonymous5/17/06
Had to shut it off before it was over. Pretty stupid and boring.
Tarkus5/17/06
Has anyone actually been able to get through all of this? I can handle criticism of America if it's interesting, but watching this is like, well, um, Chinese water torture.
